THE GENERAL CURRICULUM.

 

The duration of residential training varies depending on country and locale.  Teen Challenge Georgia is currently assessing a training program of 12 months duration.

 

As a guide, below is the Curriculum as used in Teen Challenge Kazakhstan for students coming into TCK for the purpose of being free of addiction and beginning a new life.  Trainees are taught the skills necessary to carry out rehabilitation work .

 

  • Detoxification - (students)
  • Recovery
  • Decision making and problem-solving
  • Preparation for return to normal life
  • Graduation
  • Social adaptation - this generally takes up to 30 months

 

Curriculum Emphasis

 

  • Residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation
  • Developing structured lifestyle
  • Learning personal disciplines
  • Re-forming relationships
  • Vocational program for developing work ethic
  • Teaching respect for authority
  • Learning self-respect and self-esteem.

 

Admission

 

Admission and stay is strictly voluntary with the consent of parents or guardian.  Student anonymity and confidentiality is emphasized.

 

On entering Teen Challenge Georgia, students can expect:

 

  • Immediate removal of all addictive substances including cigarettes
  • A highly disciplined program demanding a cooperative attitude
  • Mandatory participation in all aspects of the program on a daily basis

 

The curriculum includes  studies and courses aimed at:

 

  • Establishing a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ
  • Developing life-skills
  • Character development (positive attitudes, trustworthiness, concern for others, responsibility)
  • Relational guidance
  • Social skills
  • Recreational activities
  • Students have English Language studies
  • Become acquainted with the content of spiritual literature.

 

Vocational training  is an important part of Teen Challenge.  Usually in the areas of:

 

  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Woodwork
  • Building and renovation
  • Horticulture and landscaping
  • Cooking
  • Home maintenance

(Men's centers. Women's centers include other vocational activities.)
